Bomb Scare: Tragedy averted as police defuse bomb near primary school

Hundreds of students and parents were today saved from a terrible tragedy when about one kilogramme of explosives, 22cm long and cylindrical in shape was diffused by the Bomb Disposal Unit of the Nigerian Police.  The explosives were said to have been planted near the Tin City Primary School in Jos, the Plateau State capital today.

The students and adults within the vicinity were dispersed and the device defused with disposal experts saying the fuse on the bomb had been lit, but went out before it could cause an explosion.   Apparently the homemade device was not remote controlled.

Police investigations have suggested the device was met to blow up the cash machine that was nearby.
