Governor of Nasarawa State declares dusk-to-dawn curfew on Lafia

 
 
Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura this evening declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Lafia following violence which broke out today.
 
The curfew was declared immediately after the emergency security council meeting the governor called for earlier today.  The governor stated that the curfew became necessary so as to stop the killings and destruction of properties.
 
Many houses and shops were sent ablaze today in Lafia following violent disturbances at the Tundun Gwandara.  The violence was said to have lasted up to 11 hours.



Soldiers who were dispatched to the troubled spot had to dispatched rioters who had blocked the Shabu-Akwarga highway.

The Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, Ogochukwu Theodore confirmed the incident and said police were dispatched to the scene and that the situation have been brought under control.

The curfew would start by 6pm and end 6am.
